Surgical Trocar is a sharp three-sided pointed
hollow cylinder, which is used to introduce cannulas and other implements
into body cavities and blood vessels. Widely used in laparoscopic surgery,
these flexible trocar is often passed inside a cannula to serve the function as a portal
for the subsequent placement of devices like chest drain, intravenous
cannula etc.
In laparoscopic surgery, flexible surgical trocars are used for the introduction of
laparoscopic hand instruments like graspers, scissors etc. in order to
perform large abdominal incision surgery. One of the most commonly used
single patient instrument, surgical trocars are graduated from the 'three
point' design to either a blade free product or something entirely flat
bladed dilating-tip. These Flexible Trocars are also utilized in the end of the embalming
processes for providing drainage of bodily fluids as well as organs after
the vascular replacement of blood with embalming chemicals.
It is attached to a suction hose, which is attached to a running water
source and the drain. The action of removing gas, fluids and/or semi-solids
from the body cavities and organs using the surgical trocar is termed as aspiration.
After cavity embalming has been finished, the puncture is commonly sealed
using a small, plastic object resembling a screw and called a trocar button.
